Love Story

This card is made especially with my mother in mind. When you see all the pictures, you will see why. All papers are scrap, except for the off white base, which is a 12x6 in. generic card stock from Wassau I brought at Target a few years back. The flat back pearls are from the dollar aisle at Michaels. The pearl flourishes were on clearance at Michael's and are by Recollections. The sentiments are stickers, also from recollections. The papers are from my scrap box. I distressed the pink papers with a distressing tool from Stampin' Up and inked them with crumb cake ink also from Stampin' Up. The paper roses are also from the dollar aisle at Michael's. The Scalloped heart is cut from cricut craft room basics as is the plain heart.

On with the show:

Obviously, this is the front of the card.

Due to the folds, I created a belly band to keep the card closed.

The front without the belly band.

The inside of the card.

The pictures are of my mom and dad circa 1967.

The center of the card fold up to reveal another picture and sentiment.

My mom and dad circa the year 2000. Theirs is a true love story. I cannot wait to give this to my mom this weekend. I cried when I made this card. I expect happy tears when she reads it. I hope you all have a great Valentine's Day weekend.

BookMark

Since I haven't been crafting in a while, I wanted to start with something kind of simple. I have a friend who has been right by my side through all the crap that has happened to me this past year and I want to thank her.   So, I thought I would use my craftiness to do so. And, since my crafting is a bit rusty and dusty, I decided I would make a book mark. All the papers I used, are from my  scrap book. The lace is also scrap. The clothes pin and the flowers are from recollections.

Challenges:
1.  Delightful Challenges: Anything But a Card
2.  Pinspirational Challenges: #93
3.  Through the Craft Room Door: Anything Goes

I hope both you and she think this book mark is as pretty as I do.

Sorry It's Been So Long

I know. It's been a very long time since I've been on my blog and without explanation to boot. I don't want to bore you with long drawn out  stories so I will try to make a long story short.

Once upon a time, in January 2013, I began to pass out with warning and began to suffer from excruciating headaches. The headaches and the passing out were so terrible I was unable to work. I went thought test after test and doctor after doctor without an explanation for what was happening to me. I even took a trip up to Cleveland Clinic. Even the doctor's a Cleveland Clinic couldn't pin down what was happening to me. The trip to Cleveland took place in August 2013 (keep in mind, this whole time, I'm still not working). So, I took a chance in September, 2013 and saw a new Neurologist at University of Cincinnati. He agreed with a couple of the other neurologists I had seen. So, finally, I had a diagnosis:  Psuedotumor Cerebri aka Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension. But, he felt the condition was better treated by a headache specialist. So, I finally (whew), after almost 10 months, not only had a diagnosis but also a specialist. My first appointment with the headache specialist was in the end of October 2013. Right about know you are asking, "Um, Miranda, what's pseudotumor cerebri?" Basically, it's a condition in which the pressure inside my skull is increased for no obvious reason. The symptoms mimic those of a brain tumor, but no brain tumor is present. I am currently being treated successfully with 2 medications. Should medical treatment fail, surgical intervention may be necessary.

As relieved as I was to finally be on the right track, I was still in a lot of pain, though not passing out as often, if at all, and I was an emotional wreck. That being said. An emotional wreck is not a good state for a girl to be in who has spent the  majority of her life with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder. So, when I started to realize my emotions weren't exactly the most stable, I started to reach out to anyone who would listen. Unfortunately, no one would listen. I think this was mostly due to the fact that I really couldn't pin point what exactly what wrong with me, I just knew that I was broken, I just wasn't right.  It wasn't until after Christmas that I was able to convince my psychiatrist that something was wrong. His solution was to change my antidepressant. In hindsight, which we all know is 20/20, this was not a good idea. As I weaned off the medication I had been on for years and began to taper onto the new medication I was fine. It wasn't until the old medication had been completely stopped that I noticed the change. Before switching over the medications, I was depressed and just kind of "blah." Once the old medication had been completely stopped and I was only on the new medication, I was angry, very, very angry. And I lost every filter I ever had. I said and did things and I didn't care who they hurt or what the consequences were. Now, I have pretty much always spoken what's on my  mind, but this was different. Over the years I had learned to speak my mind in a way that isn't always brash and painful, this was balls to the wall evil, mean girl action. The reaction to the medication was so bad, I actually ended up in the hospital for about a week because the doctor and my family were afraid I might hurt myself or someone else. While, being hospitalized sucked, they were able to find a new medication (only one) that takes the place of all 3 of the medications I was on prior to the whole ugly incident.

The name of the medication my doctor put me on, the one that did not agree with me, was Viibryd. While in the hospital, one of the nurses was telling me that she knew of 3 people personally that had bad reactions to the medication. So, when I got home, I looked it up on the net. Well, it seems that only a select few have actually done well with the medication. My reaction seems to be of the more extreme variety, but still, it doesn't seem like there is much good information out there. It was definitely easier to find information on how it caused bad reactions versus the good information.

So, There is my year in a nutshell as well as an explanation as to kind of my downward spiral and lack of activity of my blog for the last few months. Needless to say, my craft room had been abandoned for a while and I think evil crafty gnomes broke in and scattered stuff all over the place. I went in about a week ago and was so overwhelmed I almost turned right around and said "F@*& it!" But, I didn't. I took several days and actually rearranged, pitched, dusted, organized, etc. and now I think I might be ready to start some light crafting again.  Woo Hoo!!!!!!  No, I know I said I would probably never share my crafting space, but I thought I would go ahead and show you. Keep in mind, I live in a very small  house, I have no real "crafting furniture" and everything is just kind of thrown together from what I have found at good will, garage sales, etc.

Thanks for stopping by. Sorry it's been so long.

So Thankful

Hello again everyone! I haven't been feeling well, so this post is going to be short and sweet.

This week's theme at the Outlawz is die cuts/punches. So, here is my project:
Card Base: Brown scrap
Circle layer: I have had this paper in my stash for quite some time. I do not know who the designer is. The pack has totally fallen apart and the front has come off and is gone.
Rectangles: backside of pumpkin paper
Sentiment: computer generated and printed on Very Vanilla paper from Stampin Up.
Leaves: Martha Stewart Punches punched from scrap paper
Pumpkin: Cut from Cricut craft room basics cartridge using scrap orange paper. I ran it through the embosser with the distressed lines EF then inked the edges with Really Rust ink from Stampin Up. I colored in the stem and vines with sharpie markers and added the doodles with sharpie also. I popped the center of the pumpkin up with one layer of foam tape.

I hope you like it. Have a great week and keep creating!

Birthday Stars

Hello fellow crafters! I hope you have all had a great week. This weeks challenge at the Outlawz is stars and snowflakes. The idea is to use stars and or snowflakes in your creation.  I chose to make a birthday card for my mom. There are several pictures of this car since there are multiple aspects to this card. So, pictures first.

Ok, so, first things first....papers: All papers are scrap. I love it when scrap papers come together to make such awesome projects.

Inspiration: came from Pinterest and of course, I can't find the link again. So, thanks for the inspiration whoever you are!

The front of the card is a tag that I elongated and fan folded. It is being held shut with bakers twine from my stash. The paper on the front was embossed with a star EF. The sentiment is computer generated. The stars were cut from the Cricut cartridge Cricut Craft Room Basics.

Inside, again the sentiment is computer generated and the stars are the same cut as on the outside. The ribbon is a scrap from my stash.

I love the way this turned out and I hope you do too.

Food Coma

I am so excited. This is the first week that Paper A La Mode at the Outlawz Challenges has had a sponsor! This week's sponsor......Rick St. Dennis. He has a little bit of everything and all his images are fantastic. If you are unfamiliar with his work, he has two store; one at Etsty and one at Zibbet. Seriously, check it out! His images look complicated, but are really quite easy to color.

On to my project. I have made an 8.5" x 11" sign that I plan to place on the Thanksgiving serving table.
Obviously this is inspired by the Keep Calm and Cary On signs that have been all the rage as of late. Here's the Recipe

Image: Rick St. Dennis Autumn Nap printed on Very Vanilla paper from Stampin Up and mounted on scrap orange paper. This combination was then adhered to box pleated ribbon from my stash.
Coloring Media: oil pencils
Green Leaf: The image has a pumpkin leaf where the green "flower leaf" has been glued. The flower is from the dollar isle at Michael's. I think I got it last year at Christmas time. I took out the little stamen and added a hand made bead spray.
Edge Flowers: The flowers at the edges of the image have been in my stash for quite some time and I honestly have no idea where I got them. The leaves under the flowers are punched maple leaves.
Background paper: The background paper for this is also Very Vanilla from Stampin Up.
Brown Layer: The brown layer is Early Espresso from Stampin Up. I used the Cricut Craft Room Basics to cut out the lettering and used the negative space to achieve the look I wanted.

Here's a closer look at the image:

This was a very fun piece to make. I hope you like it!

Winter Wonderland

The theme this week at the Outlawz is "Snowmen." Now, I absolutely love snowmen and my house if full of them. I also have a ton of snowman images and it was difficult to chose one. But, when I finally did, this is what I came up with.....my first shaker card:

Here's the recipe:
Card Base: generic white card stock
Image: Disney coloring page
Blue paper: From recollections
Acetate: clear plastic from a Stampin' Up bag
Blue Glitter Paper: DCWV glitter stack
Snow globe base: Scrap brown paper
Silver shape: scrap metallic paper
Blue ribbon wrapped around base of snow globe: scrap piece from stash. I think it came from Studio G.

Halloween Wreath: Beware

This week on the Outlawz, we have an anything goes challenge. As it is Halloween, I have decided to make a Halloween wreath. The one I had last year, is old and ugly.  So here it is.....

I used a 12 inch foam wreath I got at the dollar store. I wrapped 2" wide strips of patterned paper around the wreath. Honestly, I just taped them to it. I bought some spiders and skeletons at the local grocery store and hot glued them to the wreath. The spider web is made of bakers twine from my stash. The black mesh behind the spider web is the mesh bag that the spiders and skeletons came in. The beware sign is cut from my Cricut ultimate creative series cartridge. The papers are scrap. It was very simple to make and I am quite proud of it.

  • Pumpkin (yellow): cut from Cricut Craft Room Basics using yellow scrap paper

"M" is for Maroon

This week at the Outlawz, there is a color challenge and it goes something like this.....Make a project in which the primary color begins with the first letter of your first name. The color can be in any language. If there isn't a color that begins with your first name, make a project in which the main color begins with a letter that appears no where in your name.

So, "M" is for Miranda and for maroon.  Here is my DT entry.
As you can see, it is an easel card. The card base is a maroon piece of shimmer paper from DCWV. The next layer is a piece of plain black card stock. The next layer is a piece of kraft of with maroon diamonds. It is from one of last years Christmas papers from Recollections. The image was printed onto a piece of maroon scrap paper. The image is another one that my nephew drew. All I did was some light coloring with sharpie markers. I also did some sponging around the edges with black ink from Studio G. (If you are unaware, Studio G products can be bought at Wal-Mart, Michaels, etc. They usually cost lest than $1) The RIP ribbon I had in my stash. The sentiment was a freebie from Create with TLC. I printed it onto kraft card stock and distressed it with vintage photo. I hope you like it!

Raggedy Scarecrow

Sorry I haven't been around lately. I have been quite ill and really couldn't wrap my head around much of anything. But, I am starting to feel a little better. I think because all I have been doing is sleeping, it's now 4am and I can't sleep. So I decided to try a simple card. It's a fall greetings card, but I am pleased with how it turned out.

The card base is an olive colored cardstock from Recollections. The next layers if a dark reddish brown. The images and sentiment were printed on plain generic white cardstock . The leaves were cut from the Cricut Classroom Cartridge: August and September which is free cartridge in the Cricut Craft Room this week.
There are 2 different digital images here. The background is from Elizabeth Dulemba and is called Passel o' Pumpkins. It is colored with sharpie markers. The Raggedy Scarecrow is this month's freebie from Birdie Brown. He is colored with a combination of sharpie markers and oil pencils. I sponged around the images with really rusk ink from Stampin' Up.
The sentiment is computer generated and sponged with Vintage Photo. The background paper brought out the greenish color in the ink. The 2 clear orange circles are called Skittles. I won them in a challenge. They are from Carrie-AKA A Busy Bee. She makes the skittles by hand which makes each one slightly different and she has a wide variety of colors and comes out with new colors quite frequently. I have fallen in love with them. She currently has her Halloween colors available. The color of the ones I used is called Sunset Orange. They are adhered with glossy accents.

Fight Like a Girl

October is breast cancer awareness month and I have thrown together a quick card in honor of those who are suffering with, who have survived, or who have lost their battle with breast cancer.
Card base is just plain generic white cardstock. The sentiment is computer generated and colored with a Bic felt tip pen. I got the image from www.letmecolor.com. It is colored with a combination of sharpie marker and oil pencil. The pink paper clip is from my stash as is the silver ribbon charm that says hope.

I hope you like it.

Trick or Tweet & Freebie

This week's challenge at the Outlawz is "Doodles." I am not much of an artist. I really can't even draw a sick figure. But, since I am part of this design team, I couldn't just pass it up. But, I did put it off longer than I usually do. Then, while I was at a store, I don't which one, I saw a Halloween poster that got me thinking. So, when I got home, I sat down with my graphics program, I "drew" my inspiration on the computer. And, this is the card that I came up with using my "digital doodle:"

The card base is a dark blue card stock from Michael's. I created clouds in the background by sponging ballet blue ink over pieces of paper that had been cut out with decorative scissors. The moon is a scrap pieces of cream paper cut in a circle. I stamped it with a French script background stamp from sweet stamps. I then inked the circle "moon" with vintage photo distress ink. The strip of paper that is acting as the "tree trunk" is a scrap piece of paper from DCWV (I think). The branch was cut from the Ultimate Creative Series Cricut Cartridge from a scrap piece of brown card stock. The birds on the branch are the digital image I created. It was colored with sharpies. Here's a closer look at the clouds.....

Anyway, I hope you like it. If you would like the digital image, please let me know and I will post it.

Other than that, have fun with it and I would love to see what you do with it if you feel like sharing.

Carousel

The challenge at The Outlawz is "Carousel." I'm not much of a carousel person, but I was able to put something together. When I was growing up, I lived near an amusement park. I spent more than my fair share of time there. They had a huge carousel and I took my inspiration from my memories of that carousel.

I started with the images. They are both the same image, only colored differently. They are freebies from Beccy's Place. I colored them with oil pencils and added some bling to the poles with iridescent glitter glue. All papers used for this project are scrap. What I did was adhere the background paper to a piece of mat board. I then cut rectangles in the center of rectangles longer than the back ground. The inner most being shorter than the outer. The manipulated them to round them like a carousel. I added the scalloped border to the top. I also added a small strip of the same paper to the bottom of the project. The sentiment is computer generated. The silver rhinestones were from the dollar bins at Michaels. After standing back and taking a look at what I thought was the finished project, I realized something was missing. On the carousel at the amusement park, there were pictures along the top of the carousel. So, I decided to add glittered gems to the scallops. To me, it made all the difference in the world. I bought the gems on clearance at Michaels.

This was one of those projects you kind of make up as you go along and I am quite pleased with the way it turned out. I hope you like it too.

Fall Fairy

I'm not much for fairies, but when I found this drawing, I had to color it up and use it. This drawing is a one of a kind that was drawn by my nephew. I am so very proud of him. He is an awesome artist and has artwork all over the city of Cincinnati and if you watch MLB baseball, he does all the graphics for the Cleveland Indians. Anyway, enough about that. Here is the card:
The card was inspired by one I saw on Pinterest that you can find here. All papers used were scrap. I have already said the fairy was drawn by my nephew. The pine sprigs were cut from the 50 States Cricut Cartridge. It is a free cut this week in the Craft Room. The butterfly is a Martha Stewart punch. I used a previously inked paper I had left over from a previous project. The pearls on the body were form the dollar aisle at Michael's. The yellow flower is also from the dollar aisle at Michaels. I inked the edges in orange ink from Studio G. The image was colored using a combination of Sharpie Markers and Oil Pencils. I then distressed the paper with Vintage photo. Here are some closer looks at the card.

Vintage Easle Card

This week's challenge at the Outlawz is to use something you have had for a long time but never used. As, my stash is not that large, there isn't much I haven't used, but I was able to come up with some paper and some silver butterflies that have been around a while and I haven't used. Here is my project:

I think it turned out absolutely beautiful. The card base is cream cardstock that I distressed with Vintage Photo distress ink. The scallop circle is cut from the Cricut Cartridge, Cricut Essentials. Then using the Ribbons and Rosettes cartridge, I cut out and shaped the rosette from the paper I had found. If I remember correctly, it was a sheet of paper from Michaels that I go on clearance quite some time ago. I wanted to put cheese cloth between the scallop and the rosette but didn't have any. So, I say and thought for a few minute. I was able to come up with something. The fibers between the scallop and the rosette is actually medical gauze that I died with home made blue glimmer mist. I think it turned out fabulously. I glued the gauze down, then the rosette. The next two circles were cut from the Cricut Craft Room Essentials cartridge. I glued them down and then adhered some more of the gauze I had died. Next was a flower made of the same paper as the rosette. It is a 6 petal flower with 2 petal layers. The flower center is a grey snowflake and a blue pearl from my stash. To me it needed something else, so, I added the grey flourishes and the fleur-de-lis. I still thought It needed something, so I added the 2 silver butterflies. The sentiment is computer generated and the sides inked with grey ink from Studio G. (For those of you who don't know, you can get Studio G items from both Wal-Mart and Michaels. They usually cost less than $1.) The sentiment was adhered to a tag cut from the Cricut Essentials cartridge. The tag was then adhered with foam tape.

This was not a card that I could make in a day. It took several. But, I do think it is absolutely gorgeous. I hope you like it too!

Poison Apple

This card was inspired by a card that I saw on Pinterest. It was done with a silhouette. I do not have a silhouette, I have a Cricut, so I had to do some improvising. Here is what I have come up with:
Are you scared? I would be if this apple ended up in my Halloween goodies, or in my fall basket, or wherever I found it. Here's what I did.

The card base is just plain white card stock with a computer generated sentiment. The font is a free font called dripping marker. I thought it was appropriate as it kind of imitated the dripping poison on the apple. The red black and green papers are scrap. The spider web paper is a free digital paper from Granny Enchanted. I cut the apple out from the Everyday paper dolls Cricut Cartridge. If there is anything similar to the dripping poison skull in the Cricut library, I am unaware of it ans certainly don't have it. The poison skull is drawn and cut out by hand. I traced the apple onto black cardstock, added some eyes, a nose and some drippings. After cutting it out, I adhered it to the apple with foam tape. I also adhered the apple to the card with foam tape. I added glossy accents to the dripping part of the skull to make it look like the dripping part was still wet.
